A dramatic drop in PWS&D donations is threatening programs with partners around the world

It's been a difficult year for many of us in Canada. The global economic downturn has left millions affected through job losses, investment declines and a weakened economy. But while many of us have suffered in Canada, the effects on poorer nations have been truly devastating.

PWS&D has not been immune to the economic downturn. Donations are down significantly and a serious budget shortfall is projected. Over $1.5 million is needed before the end of the year in order to fulfil our commitments to partners overseas.

Over the years, PWS&D programs have grown in scope and depth as momentum has increased. However, "this significant decline in financial contributions threatens the progress that has been made," says Kenneth Kim, PWS&D Director.

PWS&D is encouraging congregations and individuals across Canada to help us meet our commitments to partners around the world through your prayers and financial support.

Please help ensure PWS&D's futures of hope and opportunity, shattering cycles of poverty and restoring dignity.

You can make a donation online at www.presbyterian.ca/donate/pwsd, mail donations directly to the office, donate through your church or call PWS&D today at 1-800-619-7301 ext. 291.

PWS&D is engaged in many life-changing programs around the world, including:

- Teaching improved agricultural techniques to farmers in Guatemala so they can grow more food to feed their families

- Bringing education to vulnerable girls in Afghanistan

- Helping communities in India access life-saving health care services

- Starting income generating projects in Mozambique so families have money for education and food

- Supporting refugees as they rebuild their lives in Canada

- Caring for people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS in Malawi

- Drilling clean water wells for communities in Africa.
